Family Saturniidae, Giant Silkworm and Royal Moths

Luna moths are found in deciduous forest in every U.S. state east of the Great Plains.

Adults live only about one week and eat nothing, their only job is to reproduce.

Caterpillars eat a variety of trees, including persimmon, hickory, sweet gum and sumacs.
