2008 Master Naturalist Program
The Merrimac Farm Chapter of Virginia's Master Naturalist Program will offer a course from September through November 2008.
The cost for the Fall 2008 Session is $200 per participant. Applicants must be 18 years old by the start of the training session in order to be considered. Class size is limited to 20 participants. You must submit an application by Friday, August 15 to be considered for acceptance into the Fall 2008 session.
To become a Certified Master Naturalist, a trainee must:
- Complete the 40 hours basic training course;
- Pass the post-training assessment with a score of 70% or higher;
- Complete a minimum of 8 hours of advanced training, approved by the Merrimac Farm Chapter;
- Complete a minimum of 40 hours of service, approved by the Merrimac Farm Chapter.
Classes are held in Prince William County. Field trip locations vary. Class members will be notified about locations.
Each participant has a maximum of 12 months from the last day of basic training to complete the advanced training and volunteer requirements for certification.
Master Naturalist Certification is valid through the calendar year following the year in which the requirements were completed. To maintain certification, volunteers complete an additional 8 hours of advanced training and 40 hours of service annually. Participants are expected to cover all the material of the course. No more than two classes may be missed.
All missed sessions must be made up by attending the appropriate class(es) or other approved means within 12 months of the completion of the training.
