Managed Growth

Imagine twice the amount of development in your community.

If you thought you had escaped rampant sprawl, loss of rural land, traffic congestion, school crowding, and other "urban ills," think again.

The greater Washington, D.C. metropolitan region as a whole is likely to increase developed land 80% between now and 2030. Moreover, much of that new development would be in the rural areas - like Prince William County, which itself is projected to grow 118% - if the way in which growth is currently managed continues.

If developed land more than doubles, what is that going to do to quality of life in local communities? Even accountants from Enron would have to admit that it does not add up to good things.

If that’s not the future you want for your community, change is needed, because that is where things are currently headed according to the results of recent growth modeling conducted for the Chesapeake Bay Foundation by the University of Maryland.

Growth will happen. The question is how we choose to manage it so that quality of life is enhanced, not hindered
